Guide for New Home-Buyers
Congratulations on your decision to buy a Main Street home! Purchasing a home is a big decision, and one that can seem overwhelming if you’ve never done it before. But when you buy a Main Street home, you can feel confident, knowing that we will be with you at every turn to advise you and answer all your questions.
Here are the steps Main Street recommends to move you through the home buying process smoothly:
1. Get pre-qualified for your home mortgage.
There are two ways to begin your home-buying process:
Via the web, you can fill out our secure online application to get pre-qualified for a home loan. One of our home loan experts will contact you and discuss your different financing options. If they find glitches in your credit history, you will have the opportunity to join our Home Buyer’s Club. Our coordinators can offer you inside tips about how to improve your credit score and what more you can do to enhance your standing. We’ve worked with hundreds of Home Buyer’s Club members over the years, and many have gone on to successfully purchase their new home.
If you would prefer to speak with a sales counselor in person, you can visit any of our Main Street communities. As our sales counselor gets to know you, they can make personalized recommendations about communities and floorplans that will suit you and guide you down the road to financing your new home.
2. Select your community and floorplan.
Once you know how much home you can buy, it’s time to decide where you want to live and what floor plans best meet the needs of you and your family. Browse through our various communities, and take note of locations, amenities and other factors that may influence your location decision. Then you can search through the available floorplans and pick out a home to build, or choose one of our homes that is already under construction. Our sales counselors would be glad to advise you on any of these decisions or give you a tour of our model homes.
3. Select your colors, options & upgrades.
Once you’ve selected your home, your sales counselor will walk you through your color and option choices, and you will also have the opportunity to select upgrades. If you live near Austin, you may choose to visit our Design Center, where you can see examples of your options and work with our stylist to select the right color choices for your home.
4. Observe construction.
Your sales counselor will be your primary contact throughout the construction process. Before the sale is finalized, you will complete a walk-through inspection of your new home with your sales counselor and construction superintendent.
5. Insure your home.
Your home is one of the most significant investments you will make, and it’s important for you to protect that investment. That’s why Main Street Homes created MSH Insurance Agency – a full-service insurance company that can offer you customized coverage and exceptional rates on your homeowner’s policy as well as other insurance products (auto, flood, and more). For more information, check out the MSH Insurance Agency section of our site, or call to speak with a licensed insurance agent about putting together a policy for your new home.
6. Close on your home.
Together, we will set a date when you and your loan officer sit down to sign all the final paperwork, transferring ownership of the home to you. Then you can celebrate – you are now the proud owner of a Main Street home!
